FAQs

Q: What is Duck Rides?

A: Duck Rides, the new home of nighttime transportation services for UO students, staff and faculty at the University of Oregon.

Q: Who are we?

A: Duck Rides is now a partnership of the student ride services you know previously of. Student workers and leadership from Safe Ride, Designated Driver Shuttle (DDS) and Campus Shuttle are now under one program (Duck Rides) continuing to provide safe, accessible and inclusive rides for the UO community.

Q: How do I schedule a ride?

A: You can schedule a ride by calling Duck Rides at 541-346-7433 during operating hours. To schedule a ride outside of operating hours please leaving a voicemail with the following information.

    • Name
    • Phone number
    • 95#
    • Time of preferred pick-up
    • Pick-up and drop-off location
    • Number of riders
    • Any accommodations (bicycle, wheelchair, ADA access)

Q: Is Duck Rides schedule-based or first-come, first-serve basis?

A: Duck Rides operates on a scheduled- based and first come first serve basis.

Q: How long will a Duck Ride van stay at a pick-up location after a scheduled pick-up time?

A: Duck Rides has a 5 minute grace period for all scheduled rides. If we arrive to the location early, the 5 minutes starts at the agreed upon pick-up time. For example, if a rider requests a ride for 9:05pm, the van picking them up would be at the pick-up location no later than 9:10pm. After which, the ride is considered a “no show”. In the event that an individual has 3 consecutive “no shows” that individual is no longer allowed to use Duck Rides services for the remainder of the term. If you feel this policy is not fair you may petition by sending an email to duckrides@uoregon.edu with an explanation why you should be eligible to access Duck Rides services again. This policy is to respect the time of other riders trying to use the service as well as the employees of Duck Rides.

Q: Who can ride?

A: All students, staff, and faculty are welcome! A maximum of 5 passengers in large vans and 2 passengers in minivans at a time. In addition, we accommodate service animals and bikes (notify us that you have a bike at the time of scheduling ride). We also have a wheelchair accessible van to accommodate individuals in a wheelchair or who are hard of walking (notify us that you have a need for this vehicle at the time of scheduling ride).

Q: Does Duck Rides provide transportation to hospitals/urgent care?

A: Most often, no. Duck Rides is not a medical transport option and some local hospitals are outside the transportation radius.

Drivers are not trained to manage medical emergencies that may develop during a ride to the hospital for care. In case of emergencies call 911 or call  UOPD Non-Emergency 541-346-2919.

Q: Will I get in trouble if I am under the influence and or under the age of 21?

A: Students utilizing Duck Rides are NOT going to be cited for a MIP or face any other legal repercussions for being intoxicated, under Oregon’s medical amnesty law. A rider will only be asked questions about their state of intoxication if they are presenting signs of alcohol poisoning, and we will call for a welfare check.

Q:  Does Duck Rides provide transportation to Eugene Airport?

A: No, unfortunately the airport is outside of our boundaries.
